Things that could be done with maps:

• maps rotating on a cube
• aeroplane battles over a map - 2 networked people trying to shoot each other's plane, flying over a google map
• a better im interface where people are avatars, can "meet" in different places in the world and they would talk via comic-books style bubbles
• collaborative, networked treasure hunt i.e. some people "hide" things in a selected/limited area (e.g. a city) and other people search the map to find those things
• overlay foo data over a map:
  • movie theaters + info about which movie is being played as a pin/blob on the map
  • places where famous people (e.g. writers, painters, musicians) died/were born
  • places where famous people commited suicide
  • map info from social networks
  • map all contacts from outlook
  • places where some famous serial killer killed people
• an easy way for people to produce annoted maps and export them e.g. to their weblogs
  • someone could map all their places they lived in chronologically and export it as a flash movie with controls for forward/prev
  • someone could map the place they live right now
  • someone could map a trip they did
  • someone could map their frequent route (e.g. home->work)
